The Moyno HTD350 downhole pump
R&M Energy Systems has launched its new line of Moyno High-Temperature Downhole (HTD) pumps, a family of progressing-cavity pumps (PCPs) that reportedly operate in conditions previously considered off-limits for this class of pumps.
The rotary action of the HTD pump outperforms reciprocating pumps and has an operating efficiency that surpasses conventional electric submersible pumps, according to the company.

The use of proprietary elastomers that not only withstand high temperatures, but also work efficiently in wells containing aromatic fluids .
An elastomer stator that is mechanically secured to the stator tube rather than chemically bonded, which provides greater temperature and chemical resistance .
For very high operating temperatures, metal-to-metal rotors and stators are used without elastomers, which eliminates any limitations resulting from an elastomeric stator element and raises the maximum downhole temperature limit to a level previously not experienced with PCPs .
Closely controlled tolerances between the metal-to-metal rotor/stator clearance for superior performance .
Low levels of vibration produced, comparable to conventional downhole PCPs .
The result of extensive R&D and in-field application testing, the HTD pump is ideally suited for crude oil extraction and is capable of handling fluids ranging from water and light crudes to highly abrasive heavy oil. In addition, because it cannot gas lock, it is applicable for dewatering gaseous formations.
The pumps operate in a temperature range from 250 to 660°F, and come in three major classes: the HTD300 (capable of operating at temperatures up to 300°F), the HTD350 (upper limit of 350°F), and the HTD660 (upper limit of 660°F).
The HTD350 is reportedly compatible with steam-injection applications without having to remove the stator from the well. Available models include:
95 BFPD per 100 rpm and up to 6,000 ft lift
275 BFPD per 100 rpm and up to 5,400 ft lift
500 BFPD per 100 rpm and up to 4,000 ft lift
The HTD350 stator elastomer is mechanically secured to the stator tube.
The HTD660 pump’s stator does not include elastomer, and is suited to handle hot oil encountered during thermal recovery methods, such as steam-assisted gravity drainage and cyclic steam stimulation. It is currently available in one model, capable of handling 1300 BFPD per 100 rpm and up to 2,200 ft lift.
