GE Oil & Gas recently introduced its LM6000 Enhanced Package,a new gas turbine offering for offshore and onshore applications, which builds on more than 16 million hours of experience compiled by GE’s LM6000 aero derivative gas turbine fleet.
The new LM6000 package is a simple-cycle, two-shaft gas turbine that can produce more than 40 megawatts (MW) of power at greater than 42% thermal efficiency. A direct drive provides 60,000 shaft horsepower from either end of the low pressure rotor for a wide range of electric power generation and mechanical drive applications in any environment, the company states.
The new turbine also offers a dry low emissions combustor that limits nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions to 15 parts per million in the 35-60 MW range at 15% O2, which GE says is best-in-class performance for aeroderivative gas turbines.
Other benefits of this new turbine include:
Reduced footprint and weight
Enhance reliability and availability in remote locations and under extreme conditions
Reduced operating costs and minimizes environmental impact
Compact modular design, which recued installation and commissioning times and ensures ease of maintenance.
While the company states that the new turbine is ideally suited for offshore LNG production, other key market segments for the new package will be onshore liquefaction, natural gas, and pipeline compression applications.
“Global demand for LNG is expected to double by 2020, with countries like Australia poised to develop a growing number of LNG projects. This means midstream LNG and pipeline transportation infrastructure will need to be expanded, to support regional growth, particularly in developing markets,” said Joe Mastrangelo, vice president - Turbomachinery for GE Oil & Gas. “Our new LM6000 package expands our capabilities to help our customers meet those growing market opportunities.”
The integrated package features the LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine coupled with a centrifugal compressor for mechanical drive duty. The LM6000 has been proven in a wide range of applications; more than 800 units have been installed worldwide. The latest technology has evolved from GE’s vast experience with both aircraft engines and aeroderivative gas turbines.
Design of the new LM6000 package was supported by GE’s Industrial Aeroderivative business. The engine will be manufactured at GE Energy’s aeroderivative manufacturing site in Cincinnati, Ohio, US, while the package will be assembled at GE Oil & Gas facilities in Massa, Italy.
